Jennifer Love Hewitt was born on February 21, 1979. You could say she always had dreams of being a star. Even at the early age of three she sang “The Greatest Love of All” at a livestock show and at four years old she entertained an audience at a restaurant-dance hall, with her version of “Help Me Make It Through the Night”. By five she was already tap dancing and doing ballet. At nine, she became a member of the Texas Show Team (which also toured in the Soviet Union). At the age of ten, at the suggestion of talent scouts and after gaining the title of “Texas Our Little Miss Talent Winner”, she moved to Los Angeles with her mother to pursue a career in both acting and singing. Jennifer attended Lincoln High School where her classmates included Jonathan Neville, who became a talent scout and recommended Hewitt for her role in Party of Five. After moving to Los Angeles she appeared in more than twenty television commercials, including some for Mattel toys.
In 1989-1991 she had her first break as a child actor on the Disney Channel variety show Kids Incorporated where she played Robin. Other famous stars of that show included Eric Balfour (who currently stars on Haven on the Syfy Channel), Stacy Ann Ferguson (better known as Fergie of the Black Eyed Peas), Leslie Erin Grossman (Mary Cherry on the television series Popular and as Lauren in What I Like About You), Anastasia Horne (“Lori” on the MTV series Undressed & “Lark Madison-Scanlon” on the daytime soap opera Port Charles), Ryan Mark Lambert (He now fronts the rock band [Kill Moi], Mario Lopez (A. C. Slater on the television series Saved By The Bell), Marta “Martika” Marrero (better known as Martika, American pop singer-songwriter and actress), Devyn Puett (Tommy Puett’s little sister).
I first noticed Jennifer when I tuned into the TV drama series Party of Five where she played Sarah Reeves Merrin (Bailey’s girlfriend who was played by Scott Wolf). The show also starred Matthew Fox, Neve Campbell and Lacey Chabert. It was a good show, you got to see how these 5 siblings made a life together after their parents died in an accident. All their struggles and relationships… Sorry little off topic here, all I can think of when I see Matthew Fox’s name is Jack Shephard of the TV show Lost, that show rocked, I don’t think there will ever be another show like it! He was fantastic on that! Anyways back to Jennifer…
Jennifer went onto the spin-off of Party of Five called Time of Your Life it featured her character from Party of Five, Sarah and her life in New York City. Sadly this show was not well received and had poor ratings and didn’t even last a year. The show had a great cast which included the likes of Jennifer Garner (Alias), Pauley Perrette (NCIS), Gina Ravera (The Closer), Johnathon Schaech, Diego Serrano (Another World), Patrick Fabian (The Last Exorcism).
Jennifer’s first feature film role was in the independent film Munchie in 1992. A year later, in 1993, she achieved her first starring film role in Little Miss Millions. She became a film star after a lead role in the horror film I Know What You Did Last Summer in 1997 starring opposite Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan Phillippe and Freddie Prinze Jr. (I first saw Sarah Michelle when she played Kendall, Erica Kane’s daughter on the soap opera All My Children, she of course went on to marry Freddie Prinze Jr. in real life). Jennifer appeared in the sequel to I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, this film was not as successful as the 1st one.
In 2000 she starred in The Audrey Hepburn Story, that same year she was the most popular actress on television due to her Q-rating (a measurement of a celebrity’s popularity) of 37. For that reason, because of her “fresh image,” and because of her being “a symbol of youthfulness and wholesomeness”, Nokia chose her to become its spokesperson.
From 2005-2010 she starred in the popular television series Ghost Whisperer as Melinda Gordon, a young woman who can communicate with ghosts, for which she won a Saturn Award in 2007 and 2008 for Best Actress on Television. I really enjoyed watching this show every Friday night at 8:00pm!
Jennifer will direct the film Wait Till Helen Comes (2012) based on the novel by Mary Downing Hahn. This will be her feature film directorial debut (she previously directed three episodes of Ghost Whisperer). She is also set star alongside Ivan Sergei and Joel David Moore in the independent comedy Jewtopia (2012) and will star in the television series The Client List (2012).
As for her music career…At the age of 12, Meldac funded the recording of Jennifer’s first album, Love Songs (1992). The album was released exclusively in Japan, where Jennifer became a pop star. Her explanation for her success in Japan is that the Japanese “love perky music. The poppier the music, the better.”
After she joined the cast of Party of Five, she signed to Atlantic Records, who rushed her second album, Let’s Go Bang, out in October 1995, it failed along with her follow-up album Jennifer Love Hewitt in 1996. Atlantic dropped Her, she did not return to the music scene for three years.
In 1999 she recorded the single “How Do I Deal” for the I Still Know What You Did Last Summer soundtrack. The song became her first charting single, climbing to No. 59 on the Hot 100! She was on the band LFO’s video “Girl on TV”, a song which was written for her by a member of the band. She also appeared in the music video for the Enrique Iglesias song, “Hero” in 2001, as the singer’s love interest.
Jennifer signed to Jive Records in 2002 and recorded her fourth album with singer, songwriter and producer Meredith Brooks. Her first single BareNaked became her biggest radio hit to date. Since 2004 she has not been active in the music business.
Wow, Jennifer is even into writing! In 2009 she made a foray into comic books. Veteran writer Scott Lobdell scripted the 5-issue anthology, Jennifer Love Hewitt’s Music Box (2009–2010), based on Hewitt’s ideas. She wrote a book entitled The Day I Shot Cupid (2010), in which she speaks of her experiences with love and dating.
This girl has done it all…a talented actress, singer and writer! Not to mention a true beauty! She is a real treat to watch and I can’t wait for her next TV project which is The Client List where she will reprise her role from the film. The series will follow Samantha Horton, who is forced to work in a day spa in a local town after being left in financial debt after her husband abandons her and her children. She quickly realizes that the spa gives much more than massages, but must partner with the parlor’s owner in order to keep food on the table. While helping to run the business, she struggles to discretely balance two lives – a single mother who must provide for her family and a strong businesswoman working in a unique and frowned-upon business.
