Hello Kitty’s real name is Kitty White and she was born in the suburbs of London, England on November 1. Kitty lives in a red roof little white house at a suburban town 20km from London. The name of the town is unknown, but the population is roughly around 20,000. It takes about 25 minutes to get there by car, and about 30 minutes by bus.

Kitty’s height is described as five apples and her weight as three apples. She is portrayed as a bright and kind-hearted girl, very close to her twin sister Mimmy. She is good at baking cookies and loves Mama’s homemade apple pie. She likes to collect cute things and her favorite subjects in school are English, music and art. She loves to go outside, play in the park, or the forest.

Kitty loves to meet new people and make new friends, therefore she is extremely popular at school! Since dad works at New York, hence she also has lots of teddy bear friends. She loves sports too; her favorite sport is tennis. She has a tricycle which she uses to travel around her neighborhood, to go to shopping, also to travel to the nearby park to play with her friends. Kitty likes collecting little stars, little goldfishes, lollies and as many ribbons as possible as decorations. In her spare time, she like to visit the candy store too.

Hello Kitty is portrayed surrounded by a large family who all go by the last name White. Her twin sister Mimmy is described as “shy and very girly,” interested in sewing and dreaming of marriage. While Hello Kitty wears a bow on her left ear, Mimmy wears hers on the right. Their Papa, George, is described as dependable, humorous but also absent-minded. He travelled with his parents and was away from Hello Kitty for a long time. He is portrayed as fashionable and sensitive, good at dancing and playing the piano, with an interest in photography and dreams of being a celebrity. Charmmy Kitty is Hello Kitty’s pet, a white Persian. She is described as docile, obedient and fond of shiny things. Her necklace holds the key to Hello Kitty’s jewellery box. Hello Kitty also has a pet hamster named Sugar, who was a gift from Dear Daniel. A few of many of Hello Kitty’s friends are, Kathy (a rabbit), Fifi (a sheep), Tracy (a raccoon), Joey (a mouse).

-Hello Kitty is produced by the Japanese company Sanrio. She was created by designer Ikuko Shimizu in 1974, and named after one of Alice’s cats in the book, Through the Looking Glass, by Lewis Carroll.

-Since British culture was popular with Japanese girls at the time of Hello Kitty’s creation, she was made into an English cat!

-She made her first appearance on a coin purse in Japan in 1974.

-Celebrity fans of Hello Kitty include: Lady Gaga, Drew Barrymore, Big Boi of OutKast, Cameron Diaz, Carmen Electra, Calista Flockhart, Heidi Klum, Lindsay Lohan, Mandy Moore, Kelly Osbourne, Sarah Jessica Parker, Mr. Trololo, Kimora Lee Simmons, Raven Symone, Britney Spears, Gwen Stefani, Steven Tyler and Miley Cyrus , Ariana Grande, Victoria Jimenez, Scarlett Johansson, Jessica Alba, Christina Aguilera and Destiny’s Child. -In 2008, a Hello Kitty-themed maternity hospital opened in Yuanlin, Taiwan. Hello Kitty is featured on the receiving blankets, room decor, bed linens, birth certificate covers, and nurses’ uniforms.

-Among the 50,000 Hello Kitty products on the market are glasses, hairpins, lockets, bras, alarm clocks, eyelash curlers, baby biscuits, fishcakes, frozen jelly, prunes, wine, bicycles, perfume, fax machines, video games, garbage cans, clothes, spatulas, motorcycles, cell phone cases, stickers, greeting cards, accessories, school supplies and stationary, purses, televisions, other home appliances, massagers, computer equipment, tea towels, dolls, toys and toasters that spit out Hello Kitty imprinted toast. I was recently in Walmart and saw a Hello Kitty water cooler, microwave, blender, toaster and gumball machine. I remember when I was in my teens I would go to Spencer’s store and buy one Hello Kitty item each week with my allowance. I loved all the little pencils, note pads, erasers, purses and other cool items!)

-The world’s most expensive Hello Kitty doll is Super Hello Kitty Jewel Doll, she is 4 inches tall and is fully covered by solid platinum, 1,939 white topaz, 403 pink sapphires, a couple of black Spinel for the eye, one citrine for the nose, and one 1.027k of diamond on the doll’s signature red bow.

-There have been several different Hello Kitty TV series. The first animated television series was Hello Kitty’s Furry Tale Theater which was 13 episodes long and aired in 1987. The next, Hello Kitty and Friends, came out in 1993 and was also 13 episodes. Hello Kitty’s Paradise came out in 2000 and was 16 episodes. Hello Kitty’s Stump Village came out in 2005 and The Adventures of Hello Kitty & Friends came out in 2006 has aired 52 episodes.

-UNICEF has also awarded Hello Kitty the exclusive title of UNICEF Special Friend of Children.

To this day I still collect Hello Kitty collectibles…I guess there are some things you just never outgrow! 🙂
