Christy Turlington is one of the most gorgeous “Supermodels” in the world! She has graced the covers of over 500 magazines! You probably recognize her from her many Maybelline & Calvin Klein ads.

Let’s go back in time a bit – Christy Turlington Burns was born on January 2, 1969 in Walnut Creek, California. She has 2 sisters (Christy is the middle child). She was discovered while riding horses in Miami, Florida by local photographer Dennie Cody, where her father was working as a training captain for Pan Am. She started modeling after school from age 14 to 16 and during summers until she graduated from Monte Vista High School. She moved to New York City after she graduated to model full-time.

Christy appeared in a music video called “Notorious” in 1986 when she was just 17 years old! It was Model Yasmin Le Bon who got her husband Simon Le Bon of Duran Duran to feature Christy in that video! In 1990 she appeared in George Michael’s video “Freedom”. In 1993, she posed nude for PETA’s anti-fur campaign. She founded two lifestyle brands; SUNDÃRI, an Ayurvedic skincare line and nuala, a yoga inspired apparel and accessories line in the 2000s.

Christy began the practice of Yoga at 18, after being impressed by “the discipline and the respect and the quietude” she observed in a Yoga-practicing friend. At the age of 29, Turlington attended New York University to earn a BA degree in Eastern religion and philosophy. She is the first major celebrity to write a book about yoga and its meaning in her life titled Living Yoga: Creating A Life Practice.

She married actor Edward Burns in 2003 and they have two children, a daughter Grace born October 25, 2003, and a son Finn born February 11, 2006.

She has been working with the international humanitarian organization CARE and has since become their Advocate for Maternal Health. She is the founder of Every Mother Counts, an advocacy and mobilization campaign to increase education and support for maternal and child health. In connection with her interest in maternal and child health care, Turlington is pursuing a master’s degree in public health at Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health.

Christy also donates money to the American Foundation for El Salvador, an organization for the poor in the small Central American country that was her mother’s homeland, and is involved in several charities and volunteer organizations including Target Breast Cancer and People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.
